West Auckland RDA, formerly known as Henderson RDA, is one of fifty four RDA groups throughout New Zealand who provide opportunities for children and adults whose disability limits their quality of life. We are a voluntary, non-profit organisation which means we rely on the generosity of the community and businesses to ensure that we are able to continue to provide a high level of service to our riders.
We were established in 1976 on the grounds of Henderson Pony Club at Henderson Valley Park.
Riding for the Disabled provides riding therapy for children who:
- Are physically challenged with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, paraplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, brain injury, stroke or have visual and hearing impairment; or
- Have intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities; or
- Have learning or behavioural difficulties; or
- Other challenges or disadvantages.
Our mission is:
Through therapeutic horse riding, we improve confidence, well being and abilities of people facing challenges.
We operate during school terms, at Henderson Valley Equestrian Park, 201A Henderson Valley Road. Our rallies are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 9 am and 12.30pm.
